Tobacco once had an era like this
This photo series reimagines classic tobacco ads as modern cannabis advertisements, blending vintage design with today’s growing cannabis culture. Inspired by the bold visuals and marketing strategies of the tobacco era, the project reflects on how smoking was once promoted as a symbol of status, glamour, and ease.
It references real tactics from twentieth-century advertising, including doctor endorsements, gender-targeted messaging, and patriotic themes that shaped consumer identity.
I created this series in response to the heavy censorship surrounding cannabis today. The industry is still limited in how it can market itself, which made me wonder what a true advertising era for cannabis might look like. These images imagine a world where cannabis brands could express themselves as freely and creatively as tobacco companies once did.
